We Need You
EDIT (April 8): IMPORTANT UPDATE: Here.
As the more faithful among you know by now, we are working on an Assassin's Creed encyclopedia (well my human colleagues are, I mostly make sure they do it right). A huge task by all means.
So, we need somebody to help them advance the project. Make no mistake, this is a job offer, not some petty human crowdsourcing trick.
This person would need to have:
- Excellent English writing skills
- An accurate knowledge of the Assassin's Creed universe
- Sharp organizational skills (the amount of information to collect and sort out is enormous)
Being located in Montreal or around Montreal would no doubt weigh in your favor, but we're ready to consider remote work.
Beginners can apply, we wouldn't want to miss out on someone passionate and talented just because he or she doesn't have a five-year experience.
In order to make a first selection, here is a writing test. Submissions and CVs have to be sent to me volt@ubisoft.com.
Document formatting: Times New Roman, size: 10, single spaced. These are encyclopaedia entries and there must be an objective style to the writing. Structure your information appropriately. (No purple prose.)
Choose 2 of the below examples as your writing test.
1 entry: Main character of your choice, across all media (games, books, etc).
Ex: Desmond, Ezio, Daniel Cross, etc.
1 entry: Major secondary character of your choice.
Ex: Lucy, Malik, Robert de Sable, Maria Thorpe, etc.
1 entry: The Animus, technical details and information, bleed effect, etc.
Ex: The Abstergo machine, the Assassins' machine, etc.
1 entry: An overview major historical event (can be selected from the entire timeline of the IP, across all media).
Note: You could also do a comparison of the "real" historical event versus the "game version" of the historical event for bonus points.
I figured the most efficient way to find such person would be to adress you guys. Please send the link to this article to people you think would match that profile.

I’ve just sent my application. I hope that I’m not too late.
Mads | April 08
Just a thought: In terms of “remote work” are you still limited to canada only, or are you willing to hire internationally?

We are reviewing the first submissions. I will publish a blog post when we’ve mede our choice.

I would give nearly everything for this chance, but I’m only 15 years old, is it to young ?
Mads | April 01
One more thing, are you looking for several authors for different parts of the encyclopedia, or are you expecting this to be a one-man job?
Mads | April 01
Dear Volt.
How would you like the samples to be written? in Present time or preterite, and in case of describing a character and/or event, how much should i describe their in-game actions, i.e in regards to plot spoilers. For instance, should the entry describe plot twists, or chronologically describe a characters actions?
David | March 30
I am interested, I live in Venezuela and I already sent you some stuff. The fact that I live in another country and that I’m 15 years old will prevent me from being able to participate on this? Thanks.
David | March 30
I really want to colaborate on this. I live in Venezuela and I’m 15 years old. My English writing skills are average, but I hope I can get in. Thanks to Ubisoft for making such a great offer!
Augusto Leyes Montiel | March 30
Hi everyone ! My name is Augusto, I live in Argentina, I have 20 years old and I want to participate on this, I love Assassin’s Creed saga. I finish Brotherhood a few days ago, and I want to see how this espectacular history finish !!! I really like Ezio’s character, it’s so demostrative and human, the incorporation of Leonardo Da Vinci is really good too, in conclusion, all the characters are so good, Lucy, Rebecca, Shaun, Desmond, the templars, Altair, all the assassins, etc. I want to congratulate the creators of this brilliant saga. The game vs the “real” historic events, they have so much in common, I investigate about almost all characters, the Borgia family, Roberto de Sable, Al Mualin, the real Assassin’s Creed, the templars, you make a good job on this game ! I hope to se a movie in theatres jeje it’s all for me, if you want to chat or make me some questions or something send me to my e-mail ! goodbye !!!

PGAngster | March 28
16 years old. I live in Germany. I love AC and I hope I’ll get a chance.
CWolf | March 27
17 year-old Hong Konger who used to live in Toronto. Am I too far away? ’Cause writing this stuff would be so fun :3
Just finished Brotherhood BTW, and the ending was… well without spoiling it, “gut-wrenching”. Bad pun?
Pipetit | March 27
How old do I have to participate???
bluecheese | March 27
Who’s beter Ezio or Altire or Desmond
Ragweed | March 26
Well damn, too bad I don’t live in Montreal anymore.
Question: this being an encyclopedia-style piece of writing, is there a need to cite sources at all? And for that matter, what sources are considered valid or canon? For example, would back story info on Maria Thorpe from the strategy guide be considered canon? Or just info from the games themselves?

that sucks, I know everything about AC but I can’t write for c**p
War Clown | March 26
Yeah, Hi. I work for the Assassin’s Creed Wiki, and I’m interested. Just one question: Is there an age requirement?
Nick | March 26
Hey Volt, just a quick question: is there a specific perspective you want the encyclopaedia entries to come in?
I mean, is the writer an omniscient dealer in knowledge or more limited, like a very thorough historian? For example:
Ezio Auditore: Descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad and a central figure in the Assassin Order.
Or
Ezio Auditore: A Florentine noble whose existence is debated and is rumoured to be involved with the enigmatic order known as the Assassins

Natalia | March 25
Honestly, if they just had to copy-paste the AC Wiki… Heck, why not just print the Wiki and save people a lot of time money?
If they don’t simply ask permission to take the AC Wiki entries, it’s because they have a lot more in their mind than just rewrite what everyone already knows.
Or so I hope, because if I had to pay for something I could read online for free…
And if they ask for someone living near Montreal, I guess it’s because an online-based job won’t be enough for whatever more they have in mind.
Steven Thomson | March 25
Wow, I never saw this sort of thing coming. I do this sort of thing every now in then. It will be an honor to contriubte to this book (if given the chance).

Zac Skywalker | March 25
Ubisoft, GO TO ASSASSIN’S CREED WIKI AND FIND EVERYTHING YOU WANT!!!!
Kyle | March 25
Honestly, I would love to apply to this, even if I’m 17. (Though I’m due to be 18 in around half a year, just as I start college.) I’m a huge Assasin’s Creed fan, already read each entry in the game’s encyclopedia obsessively, never get confused by shenanigans in plotlines (I’m looking at you, Lucy killers), and have a great mastery of the English language. My writing and reading skills were that of a 9th grader when I was only in 5th. Besides, to be able to talk with the people who worked on the game, and collaborate with them on… anything really, would just be incredible. How exactly would you like us to apply? I mean, yeah, you’ll probably reject me based on age and inexperience, but still. I don’t care, so lon as I know tried.
Alastores | March 25
Hello. I’m just wondering if there’s no limit regarding for the ‘remote work’ part. I live in latin america, which often makes eligibility a chance, so it makes me wonder if i can stand a chance.
Robin Parrish | March 25
I’m a published novelist (look me up — my 6th novel will be out this summer) and I’m utterly OBSESSED with Assassin’s Creed. AND I’m in dire need of supplementing my income.
I’m an avid gamer, and these are without a doubt my favorite games of all time. (Just ask my wife — when a new AC title comes out, she knows she might as well grab a book to read because she won’t have access to the TV for a while! ;) I’m also a gaming journalist; I head up the gaming department at ForeverGeek.com. I’ve been to E3 several times over the years, and even seen and gotten demoes of AC games there.
I live in North Carolina, but I am all over this. Will be sending you some stuff as soon as possible.
harvey smith | March 25
i believe i can do this i have a great love for AC i think i could make a great encyclopedia
Tim | March 25
I’ve posted a comment but I can’t tell if it’s been processed. So, here’s my questions again: Because I’ve only played AC and AC2, can I produce writing samples that are limited in scope? At this point, is writing ability more important than knowledge of the AC universe?
Tim | March 25
I’m interested in this opportunity, but I’ve only played the first AC and AC2.
I have some interrelated questions. Are you focusing on writing ability, rather than AC knowledge, when looking at applications? In other words, would someone like me be able to write samples that have limited scope (ie, only cover material from one or two games)? Are you expecting the hired writer to already know everything or will s/he be given to go through all of the AC products?
Volt | March 25
@The intersect: No.
The Intersect | March 25
Is there a deadline for our submissions?
Roderik | March 25
btw: is there a deadline?
Roderik | March 25
Interesting! I’ll try to get my CV+test out as soon as possible. Sounds like my History degree is going to get useful. :D
luis armando | March 25
I think this is a great opportunity to demonstrate my skills as an editor, also emphasized the creative skills, and have informed me a lot about assassin’s creed and I’ve played computer versions, I think if embers working you, would be a great advantage as I use a lot in the computer and design I live in Chile across the globe in Antofagasta any questions can contact me at my E-mail
Michael Gonzalez | March 25
I’m definitely interested in this opportunity. It was Renaissance Italy that first brought me to this series and I absolutely relish every detail of Ezio’s world, along with Altair’s Medieval world. I’ll have my writing samples and CV submitted tomorrow. Time to put this history degree to work!
Aegon | March 25
I hope they need translators for Spanish. I’d be delighted to help with that task. I don’t live nowhere near Canada though…
Stephen O'Neill | March 25
@Coldhardt:
Wow… by the way my surname is spelled with two L’s. O-’-N-E-I-L and another L. There you go! See, everyone makes mistakes. XD
Coldhardt | March 25
@Stephen O’Neil:
… “accomplished knowledge of the entirety of the AC Universe, its kind of a requirement.”
Yet you still don’t know the difference between its and it’s.
Kyle | March 25
I have an Assassin’s Creed tattoo, does this make me qualified? :P
Michelle | March 25
How old do you need to be to enter?
Natalia | March 24
Man, I’ll have to try this out. I love the idea of participating in such a project! I need the time to write something decent now and make it as top notch as I can. And as fast as I can since apparently the person you’re looking for might be a minute away from sending their CV and test texts. Pounces on history books.
Kovitlac | March 24
I want to echo S Chang’s question: Are citations expected for this particular test?
Edwin Khoo | March 24
Would love to work on this and will be submitting my application in the next day or two. Just had two questions,
This is a job to fill in the encyclopaedia, so will we only be needed until the encyclopaedia is completed or will this be a long term continuous job constantly improving the content over an extended period?
How many hours is the successful applicant expected to put in, is this a full time job that requires for example a minimum of 40 hours a week for example?
Edwin Khoo | March 24

I have two questions.
1. When you ask for encyclopedia entries, are you asking for us to list and include citations? Or will we be forgiven for passing over that aspect for now?
2. Although you ask for an objective style of writing, how objective should we be? Do you want us to focus solely on the character/topic/event? Or should we take liberties to include character interactions if we deem them important enough?
Mariel | March 24
@ Stephan O’Neill
I think you’d do well in the job. You already know everything about the universe and your writing skills are top notch. Hope you try it out, and good luck! :)
ShinFuYux | March 24
Why not just contact the people who wrote the fan encyclopedia of the series?
Stevenson | March 24
If you can’t take the time to type out “are” “your” or “you” you may want to find a field that doesn’t involve technical writing to apply for.
Vic | March 24
I must take my hat off to Ubisoft. You’ve gone straight to the people who know that most (apart from those that work on it) about the game. I can think of a few companies that would’ve bypassed the talent in the fans and gone for some writer who doesn’t know what they’re doing and has no clue about the games.
I would apply, but I feel that my knowledge is slightly lacking. Also still being in university would severely hamper any attempts at taking on something like this.
But I very much look forward to buying this and congrats to whoever is lucky enough to do it!
Azyr_Siassh | March 24
@Chris
Well, I think we should apply for something different for our a in some months or years. I hope we can get something to apply for!
@O’Neill
Yo really should try it, why not? You don’t lose a thing trying!
Good luck for everyone!
amusing86 | March 24
Wow Volt! This is such a wonderful opportunity for strong writers and fans. Sadly my talents run along artwork than the written word which in itself is an art too but I’m excited to hear that there is an AC encyclopedia in the works! Good luck to all those who apply!
Stephen O'Neill | March 24
@Chris -Cheers pal! Yeah I’m feeling pretty enthusiastic about such an opportunity, so what the heck… I’ll give it a go.
Chris | March 24
@Stephen O’Neill i think you should go for it! i don’t really have good enough English since i only got a C in my GCSE English but i think you have a good chance!
Chris | March 24
Good luck to who ever gets the job, i guess i could apply but i just don’t want to get disappointed when i found out i don’t get it.
Stephen O'Neill | March 24
Epic!! Okay, I am seriously interested in this opportunity. I’m one of the staff on the Assassin’s Creed Wiki (User:Subject_16*), so I have an accomplished knowledge of the entirety of the AC Universe, its kind of a requirement. My writing skills are that of an extremely high standard – just finished my thesis for college, plus my mind is panic stricken searching for legitimate work since I’m finishing my degree in June. (BA Hons in Fine Art.) So… yeah I’m creative, intellectual, proactive and informed of all things AC. The only thing is I’m a resident in Ireland, so I would have to take on the “remote work” category. Or else emigrate… which I have been considering. So what do you think Volt? Should I do a piece and send in a CV?
Guillermo | March 24
I do not live in Montreal but what gives, Ill give this a shot just because it looks like fun. And in case I get selected, well montreal here I go ;P
Volt | March 24
@Teresa
I’m really sorry but 13 is way too young.
I’m waiting from HR feedback on the minimal age but I figure it depends on the country you’re from and the one we’re in, Canada. Will update you guys later on that, but my guess is you’ll have to be 18+.
Alberto Molina | March 24
hi, im 15 years could i work now or in the future?
Teresa Wise | March 24
YA!!! what he said! Im 13 & Ever since i first played a Ubi game ive been hooked. Ive been scrambling to sighn up for classes in highschool so i can become a game desighner or tester. Even if it means i move to San Francisco!!! Junior program? For poeple like me & Caleb Dorn?
Caleb Dorn | March 24
Ok so I’m 13 and I love Ur games and would love a job working on any Ubisoft games as a tester or anything
Could u please tell me if there r any jobs for a thirteen year old
Thx
OdoubleTO | March 24
Fascinating. At least some one is trying to get jobs for those who are well educated and have the knowledge of a game that has taken the world over with a big “what if”. Not really interested in a job like that though but, I like the idea of having a book all about Assassin’s Creed. I hope it covers more about the past Subjects at Atabstergo Industries. That laptop in the conference room just wasn’t enough for me in Assassin’s Creed. Oh! Maybe a Hoodie update??? from possibly my past ideas that i posted and that awesome hoodie in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood.
Volt | March 24
@sirea
As mentioned up there, no need to move to Montreal, remote work is doable.
The pay depends on too many factors, can’t just give you a number like that.
I can’t really answer your first question: The test instructions are the same for everybody, and they are all in the blog post above.
Alina | March 24
Ye Gods, I’d love to try out for this but I don’t live anywhere near Montreal try southern Michigan. I’m pretty much a walking encyclopedia and information OCD. I’d be thrilled to put my useless skills somewhere besides fan fiction :|
Sirea | March 24
Hello! I’m very interested in applying, but I have a few questions first.
1. What, exactly, are we to be writing? I understand that this is to be an encyclopedia entry, but what does that entail? For a character, would you like a timeline to accompany this? Is a full biography of their known history enough? Would you like a personality analysis?
2. If we were to be chosen for this job, would we be relocated to Montreal for work? How soon?
3. What is the pay? Would it be worth my relocation to Montreal, if I were to be picked and that were the case?
Thank you in advance!
Volt | March 24
About the CV, I’d like to emphasize that sending one would really weigh in your favor. Being able to see how you sum up your life and work experience in one or two page is part of evaluating your writing skills.
Teresa Wise | March 24
Can I atleast try to write a good document? Because Im 13. Hey im in the advanced english classes.
Volt | March 24
The writing test is sufficient but it cannot hurt to send some background information about you, even if in a less formal shape than a CV.
Al-Ta'ir | March 24
Volt, is the cv compulsory? Isn’t the writing test sufficient?
Teresa Wise | March 24
I’m with Riette, Is there an age requirement. Im 13, And an exelent writer, & I LOVE Assassins Creed. Please respond. I’m om Facebook. It would mean the world Just for a response.
Riette | March 24
I’m interested in this, but I curious about the age you have to be, like Azyr_Siassh and Chris.
Is there a minimum age you would need to be to apply and/or other requirements (apart from speaking English fluently), such as being finished with school/having a college degree, etc?
Volt | March 24
@DeeNuke
No deadline, but once we find a human whose work totally satisfies us, it’s over.
DeeNuke | March 24
Is there a deadline? When is the last date the entries can be sent?
Volt | March 24
1)You can write about any subject that’s currently “in the wild” aka, people know about from the games/other media. However, they can only include validated information – no speculation. Everything has to be accurate. (So Subject 16 is a yes, but the available accurate info might be limited).
2)Entries should have the content you feel does justice to the topic (and is reasonable in terms of their time and priorities in life – we’re not asking you to write a novel for us). A secondary NPC could be one paragraph. Ezio, being a major character, could be 1 to 2 pages if you go into specific points of his life (seen in game), etc.
Melissa | March 24
Can we write about someone like Subject 16?
joannie | March 24
How should each entry be?
5? 10? 20 lines?
Azyr_Siassh | March 24
Well, Chris, we could just give it a try no matter If there’s a lot of people applying for the job offer O I’m nearly in the same situation as you: I’m 17 too, but.. I’m Spanish and I’m studying English xDDD
Maybe in a near future we could apply ;D Don’t worry w
So, the main point, I want to know what’s the age limit anyway, please.
Chris | March 24
Age limit? i am not even going to apply, i am 17 and live in England and i doubt i would get it anyway by the though of how many people are going to apply!
